ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates applying for admission to the two-year MBA & MBA (MS) programmes must have pursued at least a 3-Year Bachelor’s Degree programme after 12 years of formal schooling.

The minimum requested percentage of marks in different disciplines: Arts/Commerce or Social Sciences – 50%; Sciences- 55%; Mathematics or Statistics – 60%; Medicine, Engineering or Technology- 60% / CGPA of at least 6.00 in a scale of 10.00 or Post-Graduate Degree or 2nd Degree examination after 10+2+3 scheme, securing at least 60% marks.

Candidates appearing for the final examination of Bachelor’s Post-Graduate Degree examinations may also apply.

Candidates must be at least 20 years of age as on 01-10-2009.

HOW TO APPLY:
Admission Forms along-with relevant Information Bulletin will be available form the designated branches of State Bank of India from 20.10.2008 to 20.12.2008 on cash payment of Rs.1,000/- (Rs.250/- for SC/ST/OBC/CW/PH category) for applying to both the programmes and Rs.500/- (Rs.125/- for SC/ST/OBC/CW/PH category) for applying to only one programmes. Applicants must enclose the bank counterfoil and reserved category certificate, with the application.

The B-school brigade has taken to blogs to voice their opinion and reach out to others.

Students and teachers in the city institutes now prefer to post their thoughts online to bringing out wall magazines. Even administrators are using the tech tool to add to the information on the official website.

While blogs like that of Globsyn Business School are maintained by the institutes themselves, most are unofficial platforms for students, whose links are provided on the main website.

“Blogs are an informal and more democratic way of getting feedback from students about the institute, method of teaching and the faculty,” said Sudipa Banerjee, a senior lecturer at the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), the oldest B-school in the country.

One can access the IISWBM blog, which is “unofficial”, from the official website. The posts provide the latest campus news — from the launch of an alumni website to reports on the institute in the media. The NSHM blog also provides information on the launch of courses or departments.

Students can be candid in their posts because they don’t need to reveal their identity.

“Blogs have become an important tool in the corporate world. Even CEOs of companies write blogs. It can be a two-way communication tool between the students and authorities,” said Banerjee.

“MBA aspirants can go through a B-school’s blog to get a feel of the institute. The official website generally does not provide such information,” she added.

Recruiters, too, go through institute blogs to decide whether to recruit from the campus or not.

The Globsyn Business School blog, maintained by the institute, has an “ask BDG” section where students can pose question to director Bikram Dasgupta.

The blog, with posts from experts in various fields, promotes collaborative learning. There are sections for different specialisations, where professors and experts upload posts on development in their respective fields. For example, a recent post on the finance blog by professors and the institute’s knowledge team explains the US financial crisis.

“It is not easy for us to read books about all the different functions for basic knowledge, so we log on to domain blogs for information,” said Sayantani Mitra, a second-year human resource management student at the B-school.

She and her classmates also write on projects and industry visits.

“The idea is to give students a holistic idea about management. Students can prepare for the day’s classes by going through the blogs,” said Romit Dasgupta, the director of technology of Globsyn Technologies.

Eligibility:

Graduate in Science, Engineering/Technology, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science, Home Science, Commerce, Business Administration / Management, Computer Application with at least 60% marks or OCPA of 6.00 (out of 10.00). 5% marks are reduced for candidates belonging to reserved categories. Selection Procedure:

The National Institute of Technology, Warangal, ranked among the top 10 technology institutes in the country, will upgrade its facilities at a cost of Rs.1 billion, it was announced Friday.

The institute, which is celebrating its golden jubilee, plans to establish state of the art e-class rooms, interactive lecture halls and new academic halls over the next two years.

It proposes to create a new state-of-the-art lecture hall complex for 3,000 students, a 1,600-bed ultra-modern hostel and a 350-bed girls’ hostel in the coming year, institute director Y.V. Rao told reporters in Warangal. The institute was targeting a student strength of 5,000 by the end of the 11th plan (2012), he added.

Currently, the institute has 3,000 students and over 200 teachers. It offers a four-year B.Tech degree in eight engineering disciplines and two-year M.Tech programmes in 23 specializations across the eight engineering departments. The institute also offers an MBA exclusively for engineering graduates, as also MCA, M.Sc (Tech) and Ph.D programmes.

India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had laid foundation stone of the Regional Engineering College (REC), Warangal, on Oct 10, 1959. It was one of the RECs set up across the country for technical advancement and promotion of national integration.

It was jointly funded and managed by the central and state governments till 2003 when the ministry of human resources development decided to take over all the RECs, rename them as National Institutes of Technology and convert them into deemed universities.

Organizations opening their doors to the GW School of Business M.B.A. talent include banks, investment firms, non-profit organizations, and media companies, including Jefferies, the New York Times, Time Inc., SIRIUS XM Radio, Bank of New York Mellon, Nonprofit Finance Fund, and Teach For America.  The finance students also will experience the New York Stock Exchange’s floor.

Gilbert Yancey, executive director of the school’s F. David Fowler Career Center, said, “These treks, typically held twice a year in New York and San Francisco, have provided a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and career-management competencies while increasing our M.B.A. program’s visibility on both U.S. coasts.”  He added, “The impressions students made at these organizations have actually led to employment opportunities.”

The career trek also is an opportunity to connect with alumni.  Karen Ancillai, director of development at the GW School of Business’ Office of Development and Alumni Relations, said, “Building a lifelong and worldwide community of alumni is a top priority for the School of Business.  We call upon alumni to get involved with the M.B.A. Trek to model their success and become mentors to the next generation of business leaders.”  Most of the corporate visits have been coordinated through alumni who work in these organizations.
